What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state of inner-focused attention. Your conscious mind relaxes and your subconscious mind becomes open to positive suggestions. We go ‘in and out’ of hypnosis many times during the day, especially right before falling asleep and upon waking in the morning. We are often in a state similar to ‘hypnosis’ while we watch a movie or drive a car. (Have you ever arrived at your destination and forgotten most of the drive home? Or become so involved in a movie that your body responds physiologically to it though it’s not ‘real?’) These are subtle forms of hypnosis. While stage hypnosis is used for entertainment, therapeutic hypnosis, called hypnotherapy, is used to assist a person toward a desired goal.
How can hypnosis help me?
Hypnosis can help you release what you don’t want, and create what you DO want. By connecting with your subconscious mind, you can discover what is preventing your success, release it, and redirect your energies to positive actions.
How does it feel to be hypnotized?
Most people say they feel profoundly relaxed and at peace while still aware of what is going on around them. During hypnosis, blood pressure lowers, heart rate slows down, and the entire body goes into a calm, restful state.
Can I be made to do something I don’t want to do under hypnosis?
No. The subconscious mind is your protector. You will take only positive suggestions that you morally and intellectually agree with.
Will I remember what happens during hypnosis?
During hypnosis you are aware of what is going on; you are in control. The hypnotherapist is simply guiding you to connect with your own subconscious mind for the outcome you request.
Is hypnosis compatible with my religion?
All religious groups (with the exception of Seventh Day Adventists and Christian Scientists) accept hypnosis as a therapeutic tool. Some faiths even use a form of self-hypnosis (such as meditation) as part of their rituals.
- “Want to kick a habit or kick a field goal? Hypnosis works! I have used it on NFL players, Olympic athletes, and amateurs of all ages for performance enhancement, pain management, and accelerated healing. It’s safe, it’s easy, and it’s fun!” — Bob Reese, former head trainer, NY Jets
